Domain Names

What is a domain name? It is part of the address of your website or blog. If your website is located at http://www.abc.com, then your domain name is abc.com. It is best to own your own domain name. You can get them from Go Daddy. You can also type in the name that you want, to see if it is still available. Many of the best names have already been taken.

You can also buy domain names from many web hosting companies. This might be the easiest thing to do if you don’t know how to change the name servers. For example, if you buy a domain name from Go Daddy and use Hostmonster as your hosting company, you would have to point the name servers toward Hostmonster. It would be easier to register the names at Hostmonster to begin with. The only advantage to hosting your domain names with Go Daddy would be if you decide at some point that you want to switch from Hostmonster to another hosting company. If you had registered them all with Hostmonster, you would then have to pay to transfer every single one of your domain names to another company. With Go Daddy you can just change the name servers again and not pay anything.

I have my domain names registered with Go Daddy and just pointing at Hostmonster. I have one free domain name that came with my Hostmonster account, but they have told me that I can just transfer that one if I leave. It is mine for life and I own it.

When I have some time, I am going to type up some directions for changing name servers. It’s actually quite easy.

If you learned anything useful from this website and would like to donate to help with hosting fees, etc., you can click on the "donate" button. My 22-year-old car isn't going to last much longer. Any donations would be appreciated.
